2013 Service Award to Ohio’s Joe Berman

Joseph Berman is the founding director of the J. Warren McClure School of Communication Systems Management at Ohio University; a position he held for nine years. Dr. Berman was instrumental in helping to advance telecommunications education with such organizations as the International Communication Association. He later became Dean of the Honors Tutorial College. Prior to his work with the CSM program, Dr. Berman was on the faculty of the School of Telecommunications at Ohio University.

“Joe has been a key contributor to this institution through his dedication, creativity and perseverance,” says Interim Provost Gary Schumacher. “As evident through his work with students, staff and faculty, he is an incredibly caring administrator.” Dr. Berman retired from Ohio University in 2002 after nearly 30 years of service. In 2005, Berman received the L. J. Hortin Faculty Mentor Award from the Scripps College of Communication.
